The driving force behind Lia Chair design was the need to create simple but elegant furniture that can be manufactured affordably. Lia chair was inspired on the cuboctahedron shape and developed with molded plywood. The plywood is transferred to a flat surface and then cut and folded, which creates the shape. Small gaps left between polygons emphasize the chair’s shape whereas the trapezoid shape of its base guarantees stability. For comfort, all the edges are curved during molding. Lia chair’s geometric plan is versatile and suitable for the development of other pieces such as easy chairs and tables. This is possible because polygon sizes can be easily adjusted and surfaces can be removed, creating alternative forms with different functions. |
